Oak Creek Area

About The Town of Oak Creek

With less than 1,000 people, Oak Creek certainly fits the bill of a small Colorado town, which means there’s plenty of helpful locals to charm visitors with their genuine hospitality.

Oak Creek, Colorado is approximately 20 miles south of Steamboat Springs along CO-131, surrounded by the Routt National Forest. Oak Creek’s main street features the essential services and a small grocery store, and also boasts an array of restaurants including the “inexplicable and amazing: fab fish tacos” from Lupita’s Cantina, named in the Top 41 road food spots in the West by Sunset Magazine!

In the winter, take your pick at cross country skiing, showshoeing, snowmobiling and dog sledding. The nearby Sarvice Creek and Flat Tops wilderness areas offer some of the most undisturbed beauty in all of North America. Vail and Beaver Creek are less than 2 hours drive to the south, and Aspen is less than 3 hours away.

Oak Creek was founded as a mining town, and this can be seen in and around the area, with remnants of mining tools and buildings scattered throughout the surrounding region. Contact the Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg for more information.
